APPENDIX E6 NOTES

The data sets  listed were archived using the "tar" (tape archive) Unix command, and then (where needed) compressed using the "compress" Unix command.

The filenames have the nomeclature :
x.tar.z (when  archived and compressed), or
        x.tar (when only archived).

These files can be uncompressed (where needed) and unarchived as follows :
Unix - (1)Use the "uncompress" command to uncompress the files (uncompress filename).
(2) Use the extract function of the "tar" command (tar xf filename) to unarchive the files.
Note : Verify that when you "save the file to disk", that the ".z" extension remains intact, i.e. not changed to ".z". As you know, case matters.
PC - Utilize Winzip to uncompress and unarchive the files. "Save to disk" with the same filename as listed in the table to avoid problems with uncompressing and unarchiving.
