The data sets listed were archived using the "tar" (tape archive) Unix command, and then (where needed) compressed using the "compress" Unix command.
The filenames have the nomeclature :
x.tar.z (when
archived and compressed), or
x.tar (when only
archived).
These files can be uncompressed (where needed) and unarchived as
follows :
Unix - | (1)Use the "uncompress" command to uncompress the files (uncompress filename). (2) Use the extract function of the "tar" command (tar xf filename) to unarchive the files. Note : Verify that when you "save the file to disk", that the ".z" extension remains intact, i.e. not changed to ".z". As you know,case matters. |
